Plugins are tools. You pick a tool to solve a particular problem.
You wouldn't tell a carpenter to waste money buying a particular tool if he didn't need it.
...by the way, you should check over at www.kvraudio.com as they catalog ALL plugins and there are many, many, many FREE ones available so you don't have to spend any hard-earned coin....
You'll need some compressors (or compressor, if it's a good one), and EQ. Reverb and delay wouldn't hurt, either. Those are some pretty standard tools to start with.
