Hi!

Looking for any comments/advice on my sound/mixing/etc. I have been recording and creating instrumental music on Reaper for about two years in my free time. Guitar is jacked in on a line6 box, everything else is NI. I appreciate anyone taking the time to listen and provide any feedback, tips, advice etc so I can improve my work.

thanks!

I thought the performances were good. Good guitar playing.

Personal taste thing, but I wasn't crazy about the guitar tone. Sounded a little chorus-y for me. I wouldn't use any chorus on a double tracked guitar (if in fact you were). Just me. Way too much reverb. Again, personal taste thing.

Huge pops at: :22, :59, 1:17, 1:26, other spots. The one at :22 might just be a weird kick hit or something.

Bass sounded OK.

Not sure, but there might be a problem with the low end. Sounded a bit rumbly.

Thanks for listening. The guitar tracks are doubled and panned. I will try laying off the reverb. The pops I have heard as well and so far can't figure it out its not in the source and when I export wave they don't seem to be there just mp3. I would like to learn more about visually analyzing my output what's a good (cheap or free) tool for that? Thanks again!

Guitars sound huge. Drums sound tiny, both in sound and volume. Get the drums up there, man! I'd lay off the reverb a bit on the guitars, too, unless you really are going for a wet sound. The solo needs to pop, too. While the solo is playing, the rhythm guitars are almost louder than the solo. Is a bit bass-heavy, too, I believe. Great guitar work, man! Glad I listened to this one.

Thanks for sharing.

I really like the guitar sound, actually.

It wouldn't work for all types of music, but for this song in particular, it sounds awesome.

It actually sounds a little bit like a live performance.

Great song. Really bouncy stuff but I can't really decide on your tone. The guitars sound a tiny bit too seperated.

There is a freeware tool called Audacity. Google it. It displays nice waveforms. But it's not going to say to you, "Hey you have pops here, here, here, and here." It's best to listen for them. i'm sure there are other good freeware tools.

Hey - I listened to the tune again. I didn't notice this the first time, but there are more than a few places where you have some minor clipping going on. Nothing too horrible, but it's audible.

This is something I really need to work on. I tend to push the levels of my guitar and end up with everything creeping up to high and then clipping plus its hard for me to get drums where they need to be then. Thanks for your insights!

Ironically clipping is something you *can* see... Sort of...

Your DAW should let you know if it detects a clip. Now can a human actually hear that clip? And what is your DAW's definition of a clip? That's where the "sort of" comes in to play. Not all clips are audible by all people. And there are different ways to define what one is.

But anyway, to a limited extent, a clip is something you can see.
