I just got done recording my guitar for my song. But when I play it back. During the silence there is a terrible humming noise...How can I get rid of it without having to redue the whole thing..Or how can I prevent it?

Thank You

What is your recording gear ? If its software, you can silence the silence and git rid of it all together. If its hardware, then I dont know.

Yeah, you need to figure out what is causing the hum. You will have to do a little problem solving.

You need to list your equipment for us, like stealthtech said.... ;)

I'm using N-track studio...I'm running my guitar into a zoom 505 guitar pedal..And running from that into the soundcard.....(Sometimes I have the hum noise, and sometimes I don't)

if you sometimes do and sometimes don't, then it sounds like a cable issue.. get new cables.. but of course not until you've tested the ideas other - less tired - people have..

From past unpleasant experiences with a Zoom505, that's where I'd look first.
The Zoom boosts your signal somewhat.

Don't forget that computer monitors (the big CRT kind) add tons of hum to electric guitars.

In general, you'll need to either stay away from the computer, sheild your guitar with copper foil or replace your monitor with LCD screens.

The later is my personal favorite. There are side benefits. They take up MUCH less space and run cooler, too!

Good point Zombie King, could very well be the monitor.

Just wanted to add another option. Learn the keyboard shortcuts to your software multitracker (namely, record, erase and RTZ) and turn the monitor off when tracking.

I recently recorded with nTrack and a Zoom 505 also and didn't get any hum. I'd go with the cable change. Also, that damn compressor/limiter can be a bitch to figure out on the Zoom. Be sure it's not too high.

just edit out the parts where you arent playing (the silence).....
