Hey everyone

I’m very much a noob to the world of recording, ive been using a BOSS BR600 DIGITAL RECORDER to do my little recordings with the band but now I’ve come into some money and want to get some serious recordings done. so i went out and bought the Alesis MultiMix 16 USB in order to start up a little studio but I’m having trouble figuring out how to set up everything.

We're a small 3 piece band (2 guitars and a drummer) and I’m wondering how to set up everything in the right order so we can record both guitars and amps through the mixer and then into the recorder (BOSS BR600). Now that was all straight forward until i figured out that we couldn’t use the amp distortion on the recording because the amps were at then end of the chain.

Reading back on this I don't think I’ve explained very well, sorry :(

Hope someone can help

First off, is there a reason why you're recording to the Boss instead of a computer? I'm pretty sure you're aware that the mixer you bought is USB, so why did you pick a USB model over others if you're going straight into your Boss?

Omit the Boss from the chain, and replace it with a computer... Mic the amp(s) and that'll solve your problem.

If using a computer is out of the question - still mic the amps, but instead of plugging it (the mixer) into your pc, connect it to your recorder via rca cables.

Thanks for the advice, ill have to pick up some more mic's i only have 2 that we use for the drums.

I haven't been using a computer because the one i have currently is a laptop and im having problems with it eg. when i record on any program (have tried afew) it won't alow me to record in time, as in if i record one track then try and record another over it they are out of sync.

Thanks :)
