Hey, don't worry, I'm not offended. I have no problem with you giving your opinion. It's yours to give, but when we want to get our point across there's a good way and there's a bad way. As for your question, the reason I write the way I do -- I'm not doing it to annoy you or others, I just wanted to [have] a few questions [answered] about music recordings. Putting periods [in] is not on my mind when I sit down to use my computer, I just go to work. I'm a business guy and when I sit down to do business I'm on point; I know how to act, how to talk, and how to add periods when it comes to business, but here, I wanted to do a side hobby so I asked a question. I didn't mean to offend you or what you stand for. Honestly, I'm a 21 year old guy who was taught to respect my elders and others. I don't know how old you are, but you seem like a very nice guy who doesn't like it when people violate the English system. I can't change how you feel, but as I said, this is a message board [provided for] help, not for lashing out for something as simple as periods. I noticed Cy gave me great advice. Joro, steve, and so on. They didn't seem to have a problem with my writing. If they did, they didn't mention it. They were great helps. There are a lot of people on this forum looking for help and guidance. They already have a lot to think about, they don't need people adding unnecessary insults to their problems. It's our job to help, not belittle them. That's my opinion. As I said, I'm on here for help, not for spelling. I have questions, they have answers. I'm not trying to offend anyone. Take care.

I'm no English teacher, but ... translated for clarity's sake.

Amazing what using proper structure can accomplish! I almost followed the entire post.

Now we just need some paragraphs ;)

Whew, my eyes hurt. I was willing to help, until that first sentence never ended. ;)

AlChuck has it exactly correct, why offend ANYBODY if you are asking for help? Typing like that is offensive, if not just plain old ignorant. I still don't know what he needs help with, because my eyes need a break now and then. That is what punctuation is, breathing for your eyes and mind. Comma, take a breath. Period, the thought has ended and you can relax. Without any punctuation, it's like holding your breath. One has to try to remember EVERYTHING that has been said and put it all together at the same time without stopping due to no period to mark when to stop.

Just like C7's haX0r misspelling. ;) I just try to read the first couple of words, and it's spelled so badly, my mind just quits and I move on. Though, I do realize C7's spelling is parody, and I appreciate the humor. I just couldn't READ it though. ;)

So, if you REALLY want help, and this board is full of helpful, knowledgable folks, fucking punctuate. You'll have to do it all your life. Get used to it.

Hi everyone! I'm almost too nervous to post. As i search the board, it seems a lot of you guys are well informed about this biz, and im clueless, but here goes.

Me and my friend want to start a small home studio helping artists who have talent. We have several groups that everybody agrees has talent, but where we live, they fear they can't make it, so we want to change that. We want to record and produce for them, either submitting their cd's to record companies or distributing them ourselves. [Possibly]starting a small label.

My friend is a great mc who knows how to write and just get on the mic. I'm the business man who goes and finds (and hears) the talent. We are lost when wanting to start the studio. [The] only thing i have is a laptop: pc, gateway, with 512mb.

Can anyone offer us a simple way to go for this startup? We have 1,000 bucks at the moment, but will buy other equipment [week] by week or [month by] month if we have to. We're young guys who [are] wanting to help others who [have] the same dream we do.

Now, I have been in contact with a guy from sweetwater who suggested I buy a fantom s keyboard. Price: $2,000. We're looking for another route, where we can get more than just a keyboard. Can someone guide us from start to finish?

Here's the setup. I'm a christian guy who wants to handle that type of music. Is there certain software [that] I [will] need to do this? He is wanting to do hip hop, r and b. Each group has 2 to 3 people who will be singing. I need a basic setup. Equipment can be cheap as long as it gets the job done. I'm not trying to impress no one.

We want to take this one day at a time. Let me know, all you smart people. ;)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Whew. I think he was being swindled into a keyboard. ;) My thinking is, are you absolutely sure you want to stay with the laptop? Or do you want to build a dedicated DAW and get a decent soundcard also? But, just for simplicity's sake, look to the soundcard first. It will have to be USB or Firewire to go with your laptop. You said that 2 or 3 folks would be singing at a time, so you will need AT LEAST that many ins on the soundcard. M-Audio is a pretty good soundcard company. Check out the 1010 or whatever they have with that many inputs and USB or firewire.

Lots of good advice, DESPITE the spelling/punctuation errors.

Thanks! for all the info really. I will take this time and humble myself. I will not debate this matter anymore, because there's no point. Now to clarify things, im not doing this to please any of you. Sometimes you have to give the people what they want.

Now NyMorningstar forgive me but i couldn't help but laugh at youre post. I assume thats how you feel about yourself, because I may be alot of things but ignorant is not one of them. Anyway i no where i come from and where im going,if you want me to be ignorant and grow up i will. Let me no if i need to do anything else ok. Takecare!!!!!

Christian music, eh? Well hell, all you gotta do then is take real songs and change words like "baby" to "Jesus," you can do that for way under $1000!

/cartman

Just kidding... ;)

You CAME here, with a problem you needed help with, remember?

We didn't invite you in.

If you can't show the common courtesy of using proper grammer I can guarantee you won't be getting many more replies to your queries here.

Humble yourself. That's the funniest thing I have seen posted on the BBS today!

Head on over to ProRec and try your cute little act on those guys. They would have drawn-and-quartered your punk ass by now............

21 and don't know shit from apple butter...............

advice. which will probably be ignored.

In the course of my job, I have had numerous opportunities to interact with people in all walks of life. I was in the interview and hiring board for some time. I learned alot from those experiences, and there were some things that just set me off. The point being, first impressions are LASTING.

When I came onto this board, I realized, just as you indicated in your post, that there is a WEALTH of information available on this BBS. I think it is absolutely AMAZING that some one just learning the trade can come to a place like this and get the information that is available. Willingness to share their wealth of information is absolutely amazing.

I realize that the information available here would equal several DOCTORATE degrees if put together properly. The fact that you are getting such information, JUST FOR THE ASKING should inspire you.

Knowing the information is available, I would surely make myself presentable to the experts on the BBS. I would do everything i could to impress these folks, so that they would be continously willing to help 'lil ol' me learn all that I can.

I would do my homework and learn about the craft. I would present intelligent questions in a manner which could be easily understood and responded to.

A wise man once said: It is better to leave one's mouth shut and be thought a fool rather than open it and prove it.

YOU have proven your point.

good luck in you endeavour

just dont get it

if youre gunna be a smartass, at least be a good one

After going back over every post on here, you guys are right. I have behaved unprofessional and I'm sorry it want happen again. I have been frustrated lately with myself, business everything. I know you guys was just trying to give me sound advice, yet i acted like a jerk and im sorry it want happend again.

im the business man
I'm sure you meant well with your post, and I can see by your latest replies that you're starting to understand (and accept) what members have said about your spelling, punctuation and grammar. That's a good thing and shows maturity on your part. Not to be condescending to you, but if you don't pay attention to such things, then you won't be much of a businessman. It is THAT important. I really suggest you learn as much about written communication along the way, as you do recording. Just trying to help -- really. Good luck to you!

It's a question of style

This is a community. Like any community, it is full of judgemental assholes. You may be of the opinion that you should be able to walk up to anybody to ask for help; smelling like a sewer in general with breath that sets wood on fire and clothing with it's own personal intimate ecology; declaring that it shouldn't matter, that people should look past all that to the brilliance of your mind and the purity of your heart.

Yeah....

Here we can't see you, smell you, or examine the lice crawling through your hair. Your written word alone represents you.

So get a clue and represent yourself better. You'll get less condemnation and much better advice. That alone should justify the effort.

Ask JSkillz, he can tell 'ya.

Ah! I see that you already are. Best of luck.

I must post a response only because this thread is such an entertaining read!

First, I must commend you, j22, for at least realizing and learning from your mistakes. I don't mean to hound on you and lecture, (although I'm sure you have a ways to go and might need it) but it DID show maturity and intelligence on your part to change yourself. That's awesome because many people are too proud and dumb to ever admit and correct their mistakes even when they realize them!

I am not debating or arguing at all...I just want to know, (and this is not rhetorical...I actually would like to know) HOW much extra time would it have taken you to type that original paragraph with punctuation rather than without? (Obviously, you have figured out that the time would've been well spent.) Your time can't be SO much more valueable than the time of the person you expect a coherent response from. Perhaps it was just laziness. Or you were in a HUGE hurry every time. Or maybe you actually have difficulty with grammar, and therefore just avoid it altogether. But with you being a 'business man' I don't think that would be the case. Don't YOU yourself find it more difficult to read without punctuation? I mean, not only does it give the eyes a break and the reader a breath between sentences (like you guys already mentioned to him) but it also portrays your tone, your mood, your attitude, your emotion...just as if you were talking. Like he said...people don't talk in monotone! It makes it easier to communicate precisely what you want. Surely you WANT others to understand you!? It's a matter of common sense. And in a forum setting like this it's a matter of respect. Nobody says you have to type perfectly but at least show as much effort as you expect in return. If the answers to your questions were typed blocks of run on words, you'd probably have a more difficult time understanding them! (At this point, I know I can safely assume that.) Fortunately, the people in this forum are above that shit and wrote understandable answers despite it, for the benefit of not only you but the rest of us who might be able to use that information.

I totally agree that these forums are a WEALTH of information and we are priviliged to be able to have them and the people who provide the information in here! Thank you guys/girls very much. The 'forum-elders' (in any forum)usually really know what they're talking about and I personally appreciate it because I have gotten SO much great free help from many forums in the past, with everything from building a website to starting a business (to so many other things) and now recording. It truly is invalueable.

I hope this 'lesson' applies in your entire life when you communicate, j22, not just in here. Judging by the potential you've already shown and by your most recent post, it will.
Maybe you can share it with the rest of the Christians.

Oh. I thought he meant:

"Hey don't!
Worry? I'm not. Offended? I have no problem with.
You giving your opinion? It's yours to give, but when we want to get our point across.
There's a good way and there's a bad way as for your question.
The reason I write the way I do? I'm not doing it.
To annoy you or others? I just wanted to."

I kinda loose it after that.
Sorry for the poke. But it was in good fun. :)

.............i never saw it that way......i dont know who I've impressed either lol i didnt come in here looking to impress anyone. i just ask a question and i get different opinions on what to do or buy or who has tried what. when someone asked a question that i knew the answer to....i answered it or commented on it. maybe i take it for granted, i dont know. lol
