Hey guys this is my first post on your board. I have searched the net for days and read and read some more. I have a low budget mic list and need some help choosing the correct one for my use. I know your all gonna say search but I have and it seems either the reviews are contradicting or the intended genre and or application is different then mine. I am a modern country singer song writer and I don't see much chit chat about mic selection for that genre for VOCALS.
Here is my list of mics to choose from. I recieved the MXL 900 as a xmas gift and even some of my pro songwriting friends applaud it for its price to performance. I had a run in with the retailer with a prob with this mic (parts shockmount missing) and now have a credit. I can purchase either a mxl 992 -- mxl v67g or v63M -- Mxl 4000--- AKG perception 220
I started taking my hobby serious last year when a pro writer asked me to write with him and have the hand to pitch some of my songs. I have protools HD and Cuebase as well. I have went pretty far out to construct a studio/soundroom and booths. I figured since it is the year end and I don't have money I may as well play around with low budget mics. With new technology I hear they can be just as good as top dollar mics. Of course, I wil in near future invest is a neuman and a couple other high dollar mics but for now it is play time.
I have a brad paisley tone voice and sing primarily country so please keep this in mind if you recomend one over the other. I really thank anyone who replies. I have never touched or heard these mics in real life and do not know there pro's or downfalls in my genre of music. Maybe someone on here does. Thanks again Tester
