Any suggestions on this (somewhat experimental) song would be appreciated:

I'm very much a newbie to recording, producing, mixing and songwriting, so I'm trying to learn all these things at once. Anything that strikes you as particularly good or particularly bad, please tell me. Not just mixing, but also the whole structure of the thing, which parts go well and less well together, etc.

Thanks!
Johan

hey

wow that sounds pretty cool! it's different that's for sure.

critiques...

i didn't particularly like the synth sounds nor the piano sounds. sounded very MIDI-like. but i guess u can only work with the samples you have.

i really like the song itself. the way it was sorta random and strange.

the piano playing was good.

drumming sounded very generic and fake. im thinking, and this is only personal opinion of course, an electro-type drum sound would really suit it.

thanks for your comments,

You're probably right about the drums. I'm not very good at making beats yet, that's definitely an area where I will try to improve.

The synth sounds may not be so good, but the "piano sounds" are actually a real piano being played by me. If they sound like MIDI I suppose my recording technique could be better ;)
Will have to experiment with it.

thanks again,
Johan

There was this video game called "life Force" (kind of a space ship fighter type game) on the original nintendo back in the 80's.
This sorta reminds me of that a bit.
Which of course makes me like it.

The balance sounds a-ok to me.
The mix sounds a little "boxy" to me.
Which means somewhere in the mix there is too much in the 800hz to 1khz area going on.

Overall good.
But sound wise a little dull, woody, boxy.

Eq to the rescue!!! :D
