Hey, I like this song (sort of makes me think of early Police for some reason)...sounds quite good performance-wise (good singing, decent timing)...I would probably bring up the bass a little and try a more conventional panning on the drums (maybe you are going for a Beatles deal with all the drums hard to one side, I don't know).

I think something happened with the drums going fro mthe recorder to CD.. they were wider on the recorder, I'll see what's up. My monitors also lack in the bass, so i'm still learnign on how to get hte bass parts to sit right in the mix... Thanks for the feedback!

This is one of those songs where I don't give a shit about the recording sound AT ALL because the songwriting/performance is damn good. You could have recorded it with one mic hanging from a fire sprinkler and I would have loved it.

I had my arm over the right speaker (on a laptop with speakers in the front) and I was going to comment on the drums being muddy. Reminds me of Karate - Sever. Everything sounds well balanced, and would sound better with the drums in stereo.

Do you think we should jsut go back and redo it with the drums in stereo?? it was my first time trying to mic with xy, guess it didn't go so well!

I don't know if any of this will be helpful, but...You could take what you already have (your drum track(s)) and place that in the middle (of the stereo field) and check out how that sounds...That may necessitate that you adjust other elements of the mix to get everything back in balance (after you make the drum panning adjustment)

Often in "pro" recordings the bass drum and the snare drum are placed in the middle (not hard left or hard right) and the hi-hat is panned a little to one side. Also the toms are spread out (one tom might be panned a bit left, another in the middle, and another right) and the crash cymbal(s) will often come at the listener from different directions (listen through headphones to really hear this). While tracking one can easily use 8 or more mics to record a drum kit and have control over each individual drum piece during mix-down. You may already know all of that...

I've read about, but have forgotten what the xy micing entails, but I assume it gives you a kind of spread-out sound on the drums, sort of like I just described (but only using two or three mics). If you recorded your drums with multiple mics did you pan them left and right when you mixed down to two tracks?

Shout It Out>>> BRO I LIKE WHAT I HEAR!! I had to turna*ss it up from the last song I was lisnting to but the song is tight and shi*t!! IT HAS A SWAGGER I LIEK but the BASS IS NOT THUMPING MUCH

yea bass is coming up and might redo drums soon, i recorded the kit with 7 mics. 3 toms 2 overheads, kick, and snare.im also thinking it may sound like the drums are more hard panned becasue this song is mostly hats and crash wich are both on my drummers left. And as far as overall volume, im not too con cerned, but I'll probably reading up on how to improve overall volume from the start of tracking.

I liked the whole song m8....if theres anything that you think isnt right I cant pick anything out that I wouldnt leave alone....sounds fine to me..but im not pro when it comes to mixing....

My main goal is to get the drums sounding stereo, im sure the whole mix will sound loads better with it. My drummer is jsut going to come in on friday to lay it down while i change the overheads some to get a wider sound.
