I am using a digital only set-up with a DM-800 hard disk recorder, and a computer with spdif I/O, so my recordings have very low noise, and are being kept very clean. All mixing, fx, mastering is being done on computer, so high quality should theoretically be possible.
However, I need to get decent near field montitors and a power amp. (Have been using headphones and a home stereo out of an $8000 set-up, dumb huh?) I am thinking of getting some used, so what I'd like to know is what models are good enough for mixing/mastering that are preferably a little old, and maybe how much I should be looking at to get monitors good enough for semi-pro and pro level recordings. I'm not sure how much to spend yet, as I intend to set up a professional project studio, but I don't know the cost/value curve on monitors. So, what does everyone like for starter monitors, and high end monitors?
All help is much appreciated.
Thanks, Iain.
