Hi all --

I'm working on a song that I need to finish in about a week (it's for my sister's highschool project... I'm writing/producing the song, and she's doing the vocals). I have a Yamaha Motif, which has quite "decent" sounding string/orchestral sounds... they work quite well when they are inside a mix. But in this song I need to have a Cello solo that will be very exposed/stand out... and I'm not finding it easy to get the sound I'm looking for with the Motif. Most of the Motif's strings have the vibrato "in" the sample, so that's also been a problem.

So... I'm in need of a very good-sounding cello sample, or library with one or more good cello sounds in it. My budget's pretty light since this isn't a "planned" expense... so nothing extremely expensive.. though if it's good feel free to mention it anyhow hehe
Format - well if it will import into Motif (I have full sample RAM expansion) that'd be cool... but if not then I have a friend who uses a number of software samplers, so I can do the tracks at his place if necessary.

If at all possible, please also let me know of the best place(s) to purchase the sample/library (i.e. good service, fast-but-affordable shipping, etc)... since as I mentioned I need it within several days.

Thanks in advance for the help! :D

You're joking, right? There are so many great choices, but, for the best information, go to the web sites for Keyboard magazine, Electronic Musician, EQ. Look for articles on sample libraries and you will get a decent overview of what available. Take what they say with a grain of salt since the writers might have a bias for unknown reasons as do most people. Then, search for the sites of the suggested libraries and see if there are examples of their wares to be downloaded for a test drive.

other than that, see if you friend has a soft sampler that can play any of those libraries and choose a reasonable priced one. Some can be quite expensive such as the Vienna Philharmonice that is over Three Thousand dollars for the whole kit and kaboodle but that is the "mother ship" of the libraries and there are many cheaper ones that will do just fine for high school production,

If all esles fails, did it ever occur to you that you could simply hire a cellist for the show or even to record. That would probably be the absolute best and most economical way to go for a single cello part.
