I have not used the 430, but have 4 SM57s. That's not to say they are great. I have been using them less and less.
Dynamic microphones, like the SM57, have less self-noise than most condensers. And, they are better to use in live situations or when side bleed from other indtruments is a concern. Your application will determine which one is best for you.
