I put together my first (small) home recording studio over the past few months based on research and help from folks at this great site. I've never multitracked before, and the song I just finished recording/mixing is my very first crack at this, did it all myself, first take of each instrument (including very basic midi skills) -- no correction of mistakes, timing, etc. (I haven't learned most of the finer details of this recording/mixing stuff yet). Although it may not stand up to the scutiny of many talented people here, my first attempt has exceeded my own expectations. I couldn't wait any longer to get it on the web, so I'm pretty excited about having some people listen to it. I know I have a loooong way to go, and I can take the heat, so I'd REALLY appreciate some candid feedback on this one. I just uploaded this song to a Soundclick site I set-up. As a newbie, based on what I've said, I hope I haven't discouraged anyone from listening/commenting. I'd appreciate opinions on the recording and mixing, but I'm equally interested to just know if the song is any good or not. Please take a listen and let me know what you think. Many thanks.

Well, it starts off pretty nice. I like the 2 guitar tones. Voice doesn't sit quite right in the mix. Don't ask me how to fix it, as I always have the same problem. I think it may just take a little work with some eq, and compression. Someone with more knowledge can help you better there. You might try and bring the acoustic out a bit. In reality, it's way better than I can do, and I liked it. Hope that helps.

Yeah i agree with Dogman. The vox are a little 'out of' the mix. Try turning those down a little bit, or turning the mix up a bit more. Just to get them working with each other a little bit more. I think the tracks also missing a decent drum kit, all i seem to be able to hear is a closed hi-hat and maybe a snare? very quiet in the mix, i would try experimenting and getting a nice beat out with full on snare, toms and kick drum.
I like the guitars, and the lyrics are great. Definately keep working on it man! Looking forward to hearing the next one! :D

Thanks guys. I'll definitely be considering your advice. Tifstorey, you're right about the drums. Drums is the hardest part for me, and the best I can do at this time is "play" it with midi (as well as synth and bass). I have a looong way to go all around, but I'm pleased with this song as a start. I expect to re-record it at least a dozen times before I'll be happy with it.

Thanks again!

One thing about the song I've been wondering about but forgot to ask...is the tempo fast enough? I've been feeling that it should be just a bit faster. Wuddya think?

Sounds pretty good, to me. Maybe a little reverb and compression on the vocal. Drums are also my bane. The bass is too low, for my liking(suprise! :D ).
