Hi guys, please check out this new track I've "mixed". It's my friend...
This is my first attempt at panning too, so if something is off, or doesn't sound right, please let me know!

Also, please let me know if anything else seems off (EQ'ing, volume, etc.)

***I only need advice with mixing on the vocals, not the beat (because theres nothing I can do to that)

Thanks in advance!!! Any help is appreciated

Eastside is Forever mp3

ive done a little rap

personaly i think the backups or highlights of vocals are to present, They need to be pushed back a litte as for panning i dont really know too much i just experiment till it sounds the best to me. This is just my opinion and i am pretty new to recording also.

Thanks for the reply!!! When you say the backups/highlights are to present, do you mean too loud? And by pushing them back, I'd be lowering the volume right?

Thanks again

Yea

yea lowering the volume would help there just a little to loud. I like to use a real real short delay on vox to give it a full sound almost like there is to of ya maybe that would work on backups beter for you try a few difrent things.
Im pretty new and aint much more advanced than you but i just got some studio monitors and can hear stuff real good now like what needs to be done. im waiting to get my new gear and get recording soon.

Do u have any studio monitors??

also for vocals you want a real flat recording ( sound absorbant material on walls so there is no reflection) and then it only gets beter from there.

I saw lil john use some matresses and i think im gona try that for my vocal room. im sure its alot beter than my living room with cement walls that echo like a mother#$^@#$.

Cool stuff...I'm on shitty headphones here at work but maybe bring the beat up a bit.

Ok... Sounds good, I'm going to play with the recording a little bit, and then upload it again so you can hear it. Would it help if maybe I just upload the acapella?

When you say add delay to make it sound like 2, I have the main vox and doubles, so doesn't that make almost 2 identical tracks? I'll try it anyways.

As for speakers, I currently use 2 100 watt Samsung speakers I took from my home theater system. I'm going to get studio monitors sooner or later though. And I dont have any type of wall padding.

Thanks

The music/beat is nice. The voc are too loud/hot, can hear it clipping.

Thanks for the reply "VSpaceBoy"!

Maybe I need to chill out on the Hard Limiting? Because in Audition I make sure no tracks are clipping, but I after I mixdown I normalize and use the "Hard Limiter" (but the statistics say only around "0.350" clip).

Should I just forget the Hard Limiting totally?... Let me know what I should do...

Thanks

Well if you track it hot then why would you need to normalize it? Just try to not push it that hard. If there is too much dynamic change up front then try tracking vocals back off the mic a bit and turn it up a little.

No I meant, I normalize the final wav. (Beat and vocals together). I normalize to 99%, then hard limit it so dynamic range looks full throughout the whole song.

I think when you said you heard clipping, its because I threw the "Hard Limiter" on it.

Good job, I didn't hear any clipping on that one. At a spot or two it still needs a little compression (Vox only) but not too much. Has a good sound to it now.

Is that your music/beat?

Thanks for the reply!

I'm glad to see its coming together better!

As far as the beat, thats not mine, its produced by Kanye West.

How is the panning? Is it fine, or does it need to be changed?

Thanks again!

Ok, thanks again, I appreciate the advice you've given me!!! You helped me alot!
