Hey M -- Are you still using predominantly Trident pre-amps?

I like the concept of your site ... very cool style, simple, yet effective. I listened to a few of the tunes (this one strikes me as almost "Silverchair" ... it would fit right in on Neon Ballroom), and will enjoy checking the rest out eventually.

If I were to comment on this mix, I'd say the low end is quite "robust" and will rattle small speaker setups (my mains handled it no problem -- my small speakers didn't like the low end as much).

Thanks Kev!

No Trident preamps. I still have an old 2 channel Brent Averill API preamp, and then I have a Universal solo110 1 channel, plus a Mackie 400f which is my converter interface, and that has 4 preamps. They all sound pretty much the same to me though!

Guess I really need to watch the low end on things before I ruin everyone's speakers and/or eardrums.

Glad you like the site, thanks very much!

Thanks! Sorry about your speakers, hope they are okay. Those hits are a little toy Indian (Native American?) drum, and I EQd it up to try to get it to sound like a big war-like drum...guess I over did it It's hard to get lo-mid stuff to all work together and be heard.

Thanks very much!

Not a problem at all...it wasn't that bad, it just distorted a bit and sounded a little too dominant I thought.

It was an offshoot of Mix/Electronic Musician - the guy who used to publish it was the one who started the site ... circa 00-03 or so and it was, I believe, where we first crossed paths. :)

Joe Chiccarelli used to chat there ... as did Al Schmitt (sometimes) ... and Will ... damn ... my brain isn't all it once was --- I want to say Wittmann (he recorded Joan Osborne's "If God was one of us." w/ Joan Osborne) --- and he was a true Trident believer and tried to convince you to purchase Trident preamps --- and to my memory (which as I said isn't all it once was), you did and you loved them. But ... if not there, where? Perhaps recording.org?

We met roughly around the time you did "The Buzz is Over" "Free" "Fingerprints" etc ... which checking the mp3s I have were created around '02. :)

At the time you were involved w/ working w/ a female singer also -- yes, it was a long time ago.

This is beautiful. As the saying goes, "talking about music is like dancing about architecture", so I'll stop there. Thanks for posting it.

The lines behind the phrases in the 1st verse remind me of Kashmir & the vocals of Julian Lennon.
Cool song & perfromance/capture.
Hw about ketting us know what you used/played/etc.

Oh yeah, I do remember a Joe Chiccarelli forum, but I don't remember the Trident preamp thing at all. I thought I knew you from either here or the forum where a lot of people from here went to (the recording project forum?)

Anyway, very cool that you remember those songs. And I'm still working with that singer (kind of off and on, she got real busy with other stuff). That was/is called The Mates, and in fact, I did another entire "album" which remains sort of in limbo. This song was going to be on it, but I couldn't wait any longer!

I was wondering if anyone would notice the Kashmirness of those lines! I didn't mean to nick that, I sort of realized it afterward, and I had to listen to that song to make sure it wasn't identical. But for all I know, they stole it from something.

The drums are Yamaha Stage custom drums with a Pacifica snare (the cheap one with the wood hoops). The Bass is a Fender Jazz (made in Japan). The guitar is a Rogue (sort of Les Paul style, but a piece of crap and I wished I hadn't used it), the amp is a Crate V1512. The acoustic guitar is a Martin DM.

The mics on the drums are a U195 and NTK as overheads, sm57 on snare, sm58 on the hi tom, c1000 on the lo tom, and a radio shack boundary mic sort of under the snare! The vocal and acoustic were probably the U195. On the electric I tried using 2 mics, the sm57 and I think the U195. It proved to be useless and annoying working with 2 mics on each guitar track, so I finally dumped the U195 ones.

Recorded with a Mackie 400f into Cubase.

Thanks for checking it out!
