Playback problems

[M-Skeleton]

I just got a Teac 38 8 track and i am getting no signal on playback. While recording, the VU meter jumps up and down while I talk into the mic, but when I play back nothing happens. I know that the problem does not lie with the 8 track because when I bought it we went through each track to make sure each one was fine.

any suggestions?

Make sure your monitor selection is either SYNC or REPRO for playback, not INPUT,...

& other simple procedural things, like that.
