Hey guys!

I've been using Waves Platinum for the past year and find it tasty at the mixdown/mastering stages (depending on project)... Although I have had a tendancy to 'overcook' the mix at times.

My new Focusrite Penta is due to arrive any day now (for tracking mainly) and I was wondering how the two would compare as a final process?

Any opinions??

Show me!

I'd say the proof for you will be in the pudding, so to speak. In other words, try a final mix with one and then again with another and just get a good feel to how they respond for you. You may well, after a fashion, find yourself preferring Waves for some things and the Focusrite for others.

Either way, I recommend enjoying the process. I don't know about you, but for me one of the pleasures of this business is getting to test drive new gear (read: toys ;) ) and figuring out how to best incorporate it into my current bag o' tricks. Have fun with it, you lucky, b**tard! :D

My kingdom for a Focusrite!

Well, the Waves plugs are $3800... You could sell them for $3,000 and get a UAD rig AND a very nice analog 2-buss compressor - A used API or Alan Smart... Perhaps a Drawmer.

Now 'yer talkin'...

I was lucky enough to use a few Focusrite gizmos in my old college studio a few years back and found them to be so nice that it was the most obvious route to take.

I'm really surprised at how cheaply you can pick up second hand focusrite stuff... I personally have never found anything that rivels it in the price range (although I only have limited experience).

Southside, cheers for the comments. I'm feeling smug already. I agree wholeheartedly... the experimenting (playing) is gonna be a blast!

Cheers guys
