Does anyone have advice on which sites are best for getting songs heard?

Post your mp3's at www.nowhereradio.com. You get 15megs free space. Additional space is available for a fee. Most everyone on this board posts their music there.

Nowhereradio SMOKES mp3.com. They're too nosey for me.

Well you didn't ask for anyone to listen, but I did anyway. You also didn't ask for critique...... well, here goes anyway! Song#1 the vocals sounded like they were too distant or muddy... what kind of mic was used? Maybe a little EQ would help. You might want to bring the (guitar?) solo up a bit too. Song#2... I really liked the b/g vocals, they really accentuated the tune. Song#3.... you used those same techniques on the b/g vox and gave it a kind of haunting effect, very well done. The one thing that I can tell you people on this board and in the clinic specifically will bust your chops for..... cliches. It's a theme I noticed in your music...maybe just "borrowing" from other tunes.... whatnot. For instance..."oh beautiful".... I expected to hear "America". Hey, don't feel bad they busted me for it on my last post! Overall, good stuff!

Thanks for comments. Do bear in mind we non-Americans may be unaware of the song you're referring to.

Uh...perhaps if there were something to indicate you were a non-American it would be helpful. Sorry.........

Jon, I finally got to listen to your songs, and of course the MR8 distortion, which I ribbed you about. :)
I think you proved your point, you made the distortion sound musical, which is all that matters. Your songs are very melodic and show a lot of potential. All in all, I think this is a good first effort on the MR8.

bdbdbuck, my man, can you not hear the guys lovely welsh accent. :)
He has a very British sound, a least to my ears.

Hate to say it, but I'm English. Thanks again for comments. Now that I've got a fanbase, does anyone want to review another song I've just uploaded, 'Jack Kerouac Tonguetied'? It features genuine Carlsbro amp distortion. Not saying if it was made on an MR8.

Again, a nice song. There were some interesting references in there, I especially liked the Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons line. God, does that bring back some memories.
I think you are an interesting lyricist and certainly do a better job than most.
As far as the recording is concerned, I'm no expert. My feeling about home recording is that if it gets the song across and doesn't sound too offensive, then it's a good recording. The song is communicated well enough, although I think some work on the stereo imaging might be a good idea. It sounded like a mono track to me. I try not to be negative about peoples work, because I know that what I am listening to is often their whole world. So please forgive me for saying that the solos in your songs really need some work, they tend to make to song drop. I believe that if a solo doesn't add to the arrangement, and isn't well crafted, then try something else to keep the listeners interest.
You definitely are a very melodic writer, which for my taste, is a good thing. Nice job Jon.

As far as the Welsh/English thing is conerned, all you Brits sound the same to me. :D

Thanks - useful comments, and don't worry, it isn't my whole world (I've written 45 books under pen name Jon Blake, many at www.amazon.co.uk). That song was actually mixed by student engineers, and to be honest, I don't spend long thinking about the solos - usually make them up on the spot.
Is anyone else posting songs at the moment? I'm feeling a bit self-indulgent.

Jon, that's very cool, you write books for kids. I have a seven year old daughter. Are your books suitable for her age? If so, I will order a couple. I love reading to my kid.

Morindae - You could try 'Danger Eyes' or the 'Little Stupendo' series - they're early reader books. But if she's a bit more advanced, I've written loads of 8-11s, eg "The Deadly Secret Of Dorothy W" - a recent one. Amazon should give some idea of suitablility - if not there are reviews around on the web, and I'm on a site called www.wordpool.co.uk I'd be happy to send a message to stick in the books if you want to email me contact details. What's the procedure for making these kind of contacts?

Jon, I'll send you a private message (PM) through this forum. So check your messages. Thanks.

Jon, it appears you aren't accepting emails through the forum.
