Hey,
I need a program that will let me change a file by 1/2 step without changing audio quality or speed. I am not sure if such a program exists. A groupis recording some stuff with me and they want to change all their guitars parts 1/2 a step down without having to re do them. Thanks a lot.

antares autotune.

but it will sound better if they re-track the guitars.

Definately retrack. If they complain, tell them that it's their fault they didn't make this decision before they started. PProbably what you should do is tell them that computers can't do that sort of thing and they HAVE to retrack it.

Remind them that they will have to have their instruments intonation adjusted and perhaps use a heavier guage string to compensate for the decreased tension of Eb tuning.

The autotune is fine for fixing small parts, a single bad note maybe, or to see what a song will sound like down a half step, but it shouldn't be used for making a major change like that. (IMHO)

What software are you using? Capabilities like that are built into CEP and Sonar.

I'm using Cool Edit Pro 2.0 I tried to use their pitch shifter but it changes the speed of the track also. I figured they would probably have to re-
rack them. Thanks a lot.

Since you are using CEP2, you should be able to change the pitch without changing the temp. You might want to check it out (since I don't remember excatly where this plugin was)...

But whatever you do with pitching, there's 99% chance that it will sound horrible!

Retrac, retrack and retrack....

Yup... since you said guitar track. I never had a good luck "transpose" it in either CEP2 nor SONAR. Re-track is your only best option.
