Hey, fellas and ladies. It's been a while since I've had time to record. This one's about 90%. Need a little polishing on the guitars, and the mix is prelim, but I wanted some feedback before I spent any more time on it. Thanks for listening!

Educated Through Repeated Blows to the Head

www.nowhereradio.com/piltdownman/singles

Lyrics:

Not born, we were constructed
We never struggle 'cause we're well contained
Gold-plated and uncorrupted
We live a fantasy that's preordained

You will learn what to believe
(You'll be taught what should be said)
You will learn how to deceive
(You will be educated)

Educated through repeated blows to the head
Educated through repeated blows to the head
Why have a mind when the truth can be spoon-fed?
Educated through repeated blows to the head

Not alive, you're just an enzyme
You are nothing but a catalyst
If you suffer from enlightenment
They'll strap you down and treat you with an iron fist

You will learn what you should fear
(And they will build your head)
You will learn to disappear
(You will be educated)

Educated through repeated blows to the head
Educated through repeated blows to the head
Why have a mind when the truth can be spoon-fed?
Educated through repeated blows to the head

Taught to love the hammer
Proud to be the nail
We are held to higher standards
We are not allowed to fail
Taught to love the hammer
Proud to be the nail
You'll be used up and left for dead
You will be educated

I love this tune!!!!!

You are a true musical genius!

Whatever eq and level faults there are in this are the furthest thing from my mind right now as a great song makes a listener not pay attention to them.

OK, on my fourth listen now....

The drums could come up a bit.

The verse vocals could come up as well a little tiny bit.

The guitar tone could use a minor mid cut.

Excellent composition, PiltdownMan.

As usual, I am extremely impressed!

Cheers! :)

I get excited when I read a favourable Ghost review.

This really is amazing.
A song like this tends to transend boundaries and can be enjoyed by a broad range of people.
I'm not thinking about mix issues with this song.
Very GOOD:D

Wow. I've never been called a genius before. I'm not sure what to do with that. :-)

Thanks for the comments, Ghost. I hear you loud and clear on the guitar tone. I've struggled with that from day one. I have a cheap (and nearly 10-year-old) Zoom 2020 as my only effects board, and it's not great with guitar tones -- either that or I'm terrible at hearing them. Could be either. I'll cut the mids a tad and see what happens.

As far as the levels, I have to be honest... I haven't really mixed yet at all. I just didn't think anyone would listen if they knew it was that raw. :-) There's no fader automation anywhere. Everything's at one level and stays that way throughout the song. I have no reverb or other effects anywhere. There's a default compression on the vocals, but I haven't fine tuned it at all. Frankly, I just hadn't finished a song in weeks and was eager to get it posted and hear some critique. I think you're spot-on with your vocal and drum comments, though. Thanks!

I was really nervous about this one. It's a rough first draft, and it's the first thing I've done in a while, so your positive comments are more appreciated than you know. Every song I write, I'm like, "Oh, shit. I've completely lost it. Might as well sell everything and take up knitting." I'm depending on you guys to let me know when that's true. :-)

Later.

Very Original Tune

I liked this a lot. The lyrics were funny and I mean that in a good way. Very different the way the guitars play off the the bass and drum tracks. I think I noticed a slight tuning issue at one point but please don't take that as an insult, I think what you were trying to get across came thru like repeated blows to the head. Thanks for the post

A helluva good song that should
be heard by everyone here.
Unbelievably cool
More,
please

:D

Hey, I've been listening to this weeks, I thought I responded before - now I will. This rocks, I love this tune.

Piltdown,

That was so cool--you had me zoned in. Your voice drew me in for sure, but the rhythms and rock in this composition was fabuloso. I'll never make a mix comment until I know what the hell I'm talking about, but it sounded damn fine to me! Better than I would do for sho.

And, funny too. Way to write one bud.

I love that tune. The groove coming off of the guitar and the lyric is rockin. The drums need help though I think. The snare drum does not cut it for me for some reason, I hear it needing to be lower and gonkier. The bass drum is really close to the root of the bass so trun it up and let kick.

The cymbals sound weak too but that matters less.

I like the ghetto garage tone. And your vocal is still very understandable even with the low and midrange content of the piece.

Also. Nice tune.
