I have a Squier Cyclone(my first and only), I find that the neck pick up is weak and that the middle toggle doesn't really do anything. The set up playablity has been good since day one, just the pick ups are a little lacking. I'm not in the market for a new guitar, but pick ups are affordable. Any advice on the kind of pickups I should put in.

If not just upgrading the single coil, would a mini-humbucker or a P90 be of any use?

What kind of music do you play?

I suppose I should have mentioned that. I blame it on Four AM insomnia.

I'm into the Bluesy,Grunge, harder Rock, Psychedelic.

I found a couple at guitar fetish that might be interesting, but I wouldn't even know the frequency to get any of the single coils in.
I am ignorant, but I learn.

If you're interested in Guitar Fetish, email them, with a descriptive title, like "Jay: Pickups for Cyclone," and a well worded question, like you've asked here. They can take a little while to respond, there's about three guys working there. I have a few of their pickups, and they have all done what they say they do. Great if you're on a budget.

Well, most single coils are going to sound pretty weak next to a humbucker, so I'd recommend a single space humbucker, or something similar. If you want to spend the money, go with a Joe Barden, but if you want something a little less pricey (but still very nice), try a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails, or a `lil `59. Very nice pickups which will probably make you very happy.

Will a mini-hum work well when both pickups are on?

Oh yeah - it'll REALLY snarl at'cha.

I'll chime in on Guitarfetish.com pickups too. I just finished changing out the pickups on a black Squier 51... the single coil neck position has one of their chrome "lipstick" bridge single coils in it now, and I replaced the stock humbucker with one of their chrome crunchy PAFs with a chrome mounting plate. I replaced the stock single ply white pick guard too with a GF white pearl pickguard. It still sounds like a Fender, but looks WAYYYY cooler, and it's a whole lot quieter now too.

Take a look at their single coil and single coil-sized humbuckers :

Cool. I'm one to do things myself, but into doing them right. Is it that difficult to replace pickups? I'll need a soldering iron, and a decent wiring manual?

And out of the Single coil-sized humbuckers which one should I opt for?
A lil killer is for the strat, right? Which would fit my Cyclone, but what winding should I get?

And a question about a full sized humbucker to replace the one I have, what one would be the best tone?
