What's this button do?
Does anyone know much about these things? I hadn't even heard of 'em until last month's Sound on Sound mag featured a 16 channel model, and really rated it through the roof. Best feature...$500 list, $399 @ Mars.

I took a look at them a while back, when Mars first started carrying them. They are a cheaper Taiwanese knockoff of the Behringers, and look very much as if they are a _complete_ knockoff, right down to the PC board layout. Which is pretty funny, when you think about it: since Behinger started out as a Mackie knockoff. What goes around comes around...

They can be that cheap when they're knockoffs: no engineering staff to pay for. They're sure as hell cheap, but long term relaibility is an unknown. For noncritical uses (like headphone mixes and so on), they might actually be useful. But caveat emptor is the order of the day, since you generally do get what you pay for in the case of complex studio electronics...

Here's a thread I started about them: https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?threadid=22851&highlight=behringer+phonic

There's no user input there yet, though, so I don't know if anyone has any of these in hand yet. Best of luck...
