i thought i'd try to make some horn parts a little fatter so i recorded a second trombone part that was for the most part unison with the first and when i played it back it sounded really like, whoa, it sounded like i used some crazy synth and im not sure why. i used the same trombone, same mic, same settings, so maybe thats it. not sure.

What are you recording with?...

If you are using a DAW, you should just slip one of the parts a millisecond or 2 out of time with the first part...

I get phase problems when I duplicate my Backing vocal track, and panning doesn't fix it..... In fact when panned wide it still sounds like it's down the center.. (oooh the joys of phase).... But, Slipping the one part out of wack a bit immediately corrects it.

You can also try INVERTING the waveform. That will reverse the phase and may fix the problem.

Try to actualy record a crazy sounding synth and perhaps you will end up with the perfect trombone sound you want.
