I have an amp and whenever I leave the guitar alone, the amp make a phasing type noise when I'm in the clean channel. Anyone know how to prevent this from happening or knows why it does this in the first place, my other amp does the same thing as well.

Since you have two amps with the same symptom, my first thought would be noise on your 110 volt line. Do you hear this only at home?

You probly have shitty power. Call your electricity company, cuz you're paying for good power so you might as well get good power.

There may be an appliance or electronic item in your house causing this noise. Try unplugging everything in your house 1 at a time and see if the noise disappears (don't forget your computer). If that doesn't isolate the problem, you might try a power conditioner...

You are hearing what we call in the electrical engineering world 60 cycle hum. Some place in your house there may be a motor or a transformer connected to the same circuit that you are plugging the amps into, such as a cieling fan, fridge, or ballast type light fixtures.
First try using a different outlet on a different circuit. If you still have a problem.......does you amp have a three prong plug? If it doesn't try flipping the ground switch on the back of the amp. Also try using a surge suppression outlet strip with your amps. If none of these fix the problem you may need to call an electrician
and explain the problem. He will most likely check for phase reversal and check for an open ground on the circuit. But plugging into a different outlet may solve everything.

...unless you're using an effects box. Then you just have a noisy effect box.
