My roommate has a pair of Phase Coherent Cardioid microphones model MIC-200A from Coherent Communications Corp (trademark to the term Phase Coherent Cardioid, is owned by Crown).
Has anyone ever heard of the Coherent mic company? Are these things any good?
They have a Bass Tilt switch which boosts or cuts what looks to be around 500 Hz and down. They claim to be pretty flat from 50Hz to 18Khz.
We tried them as room mics once in our jam room, but they had way too much gain, even with the gain turned all the way down. I suppose they need 10db pads or something to even be useful in a loud room with drums and big amps. Would 10Db inline pads be enough for this use?
Are these meant to mic a person speaking at a table? Are their any applications for music recording that they would be useful for?
Would these work as a kick mic? They claim to be able to handle 120 DB without distorting.
Anything you can tell me about these mics in terms of the brand/quality, or usage is appreciated.
