Im getting some condensers. I know that they need phantom power. Both my mixers have phantom power on them. I read in my berhinger manual "don't plug in mic's when the phantom power is on." The question is can I have phantom power on and use my danymic mics and condensers together at the same mixer?

thanks
Will

Yes, dynamic mics are unaffected by phantom power. Ribbon mics, however, should not be used with phantom power on.

Just out of curiousity..

Which mixer did you get? Just bein' nosey. :)

MX602A or whatever its called and i have an audio technica 1220 mixer. I wish I had gotten a step up from the berhinger though.

You should have got the 802a for the extra couple of $'s

Only use "BALANCED" dynamic mics with the phantom power turned on. If in doubt get someone to check as it could damage the phantom power supply.

A balanced mic has the windings for the coil independant from the earth or Shield. Pin 1 on XLRs is earth and pins 2 & 3 carry the signal. If the mic is unbalanced then one of the coil connections is also earth.

Most mics that come equiped with XLRs are usually balanced but not all, check the spec sheet or look on the web (or post this forum)
