I just brought two CAD mic's the GXL2200 and the GXL 1200, both require Phantom power. My Behering MX 802A Has Phantom power...(Please no Bhering Bashing here...I have one I own it and I like it...up till now)
When I turn on The Phantom Power I get a hum on the recording. I can also hear the hum through my monitors...it is not fan nosie from my CPU it is a elc. hum.

I figure my best bet is to get better Phantom Power. A quick check of musicians friends shows a two chanel unit by ART that is around $65.00 (I think I looked at a bunch and can't remember) Anyway...Will this stop my hum? If not what else can I do?

Look for a ground loop switch on the mixer or a 60 cycle hum cancel. Make sure your electrical outlets are properly grounded. Also, check you mic cables.

I have an ART duel mic pre with phantom power, very clean...not very tube sounding but not a bad pre-amp.

I don't mean to give you a hard time but have you tried a different cable yet? At least eliminate that as a possibility before you start spending a gob of $$$. If you tried one already please forgive my post. :o It wasn't intended to be mean at all, Dave.

There are many things to check out; some have been referred to already.

Do you have any other phantom powered mikes to attach and see if the hum still occurs?

I ask because a friend of mine has been using a rode NT1 on his desk with no problem. He got some other condensor mikes (JTS, I think), and found an annoying hum. He thought the phantom power had fried itself or something. But back to NT1: no hum.

Thanks guys...found it, fixed it...bad cable in the EQ loop...Bheringers still Rule :)
at least for the price range they are in...Thanks again
