Hi guys,

just finished another song. It's a blend of something I wrote 6 years ago, topped of with new stuff like some new lyrics and a new ending. Hope you enjoy!

With a bit of work this could be a really good song. When the vocals come in they are badly off key and that's probably where most listeners turned off the song [I almost did]. Also it's ok to use falsetto vocals in the background but not as the main part. When you sing it sounds like you are trying not to wake the baby. Belt it out loud and proud. The drums sound like they are being funneled down the middle of the mix. Crash cymbals should not be panned dead center. Some distorted guitar riffs would go a long way in making the song more interesting.

I agree with most of what ocnor says about the mix, but I disagree on a lot of the vocals. Falsetto can be great for lead vocals (Our Lady Peace, The Darkness, etc.)

I can see that you're going for a wide dynamic range on the vocals, which is cool. Unfortunately, the soft parts are getting completely buried.

Yep, pan those cymbals out a bit. Also, I'd say calm down on the cymbals a bit. Incessant crashes are a great way to fill up space in your mix without adding much.

I agree, get some pitch correction on those vocals and pan your cymbals more.

Agree on the vocal performance. Parts of it might be beyond pitch correction. You might need a punch-in in a couple of spots.

Little pops at 1:06 and 1:10. A few more around 3:15 - 3:25.

The "main" clean guitar in the intro was a little cloudy sounding.

Songwise, it took a long time to get to the vocal (like 40+ seconds).

That only matters if you are writing a pop/country song for people with limited intelligence and zero attention span. Some of the best songs ever written have a long intro.

And the rest were country.

Wow. Who I am. Excellent.
I like the chorus vocal. Well done. It sounds like Led Zep for fks sake! You should just start at that bit. Great exciting drums and rhythm. That song just takes a while unfortunately to get moving but when it does it is really, really cool, like Yes and older bands like that. Freaky Man. I would pay to see your band and you do this. Really enjoy that vocal from 3:00 on..

I really like your other work. Fantastic rhythms. Closer to you vocal is sooooo good. Is that you?
Eclectic.
Butterflies And Hazelnuts = woah! So much fun! That must have been fun to make that mettalic voice work.

Wow guys! Thanx so much for responding, haven't watched the forum for a while, thinking that with all the nice comments on Butterflies, Who I Am was kind of a waste of time.... I totally agree with loads of the feedback, I was content with this mix and to fast! Also with my vocal performance, thanks for pointing that out. I've been working on the falsetto part a lot and can sing it way better than I did on this mix! I will not do it in my homestudio anymore, because with the bandmembers I'm finding, we will record this in a professional studio next year!

Wow Nzaursec, thanx man! Really cool to hear that! Yep, on closer to you it's me also singing.

Thanx, it's for sure now that I will never stop producing music ;)
