I recently purchased a Focusrite 2i2 bundle and a Mackie 402VLZ4 Mixer. I have the two main outs on the mixer going into each input on the 2i2.

The 402VLZ4 has a switch that lets you connect your guitar without a DI on CH 1 & 2.
I wanted to know if there any issues with adding pedals in-line with my guitar?

Not really. Just look for noise. You know how that goes

EDIT; maybe not 10 boosters - you want a sane signal

No.

The only possible issue would be if there is gain in the instrument inputs and gain in the pedal that could add up to too much for the mixer.

But you really shouldn't need a dedicated instrument input if there's a pedal between the guitar and the mixer unless you actually need that extra gain.

No one has said this yet, so ... you don't need the mixer, you could plug your guitar (and pedals inline, if wanted) directly into the 2i2.

LOL. Yeah that too!

If I'm not mistaken, the interface also has the option of Line or Instrument in, and the principles are ultimately the same either way.

" The 402VLZ4 has a switch that lets you connect your guitar without a DI on CH 1 & 2." I'll take your word but that is not shown on the manual I have downloaded? In any case the only advantages I can see from the use of the mixer is that a single guitar input can be panned to both 2i2 inputs and you could use EQ going in. There is also the possibility of using the FX send/return system, if you have any "timbased" pedals such as chorus they would probably be best placed there?

Otherwise no, I see no problem in using pedals pre the mixer. Indeed IF the mixer does NOT after all have high Z inputs, pretty mandatory.

Dave.

Thanks All!,

Appreciate all the feedback.

Basically using the mixer so I don't have to keep plugging and unplugging lines into the Focusrite. Aim to run with pedals tonight.:guitar:
