MADE OF SANDALWOOD
So, I had heard all about these amps and have been avoiding playing on one because I knew it wouldn't live up to the hype. Well, yesterday I was at a small shop and they had one. So while waiting for dude to get a bass drum head from the back, I decided to plug in and play it through a Mesa 212 cab. Turns out I was absolutely stunned. I ended up playing for about 20 minutes until the guy told me they'd been closed for 15 minutes. So I did what anyone who had stayed past their welcome would do and asked how low he could go on the amp. $350 was it, and so I happily said "yes, oh god yes." Got back to the practice space and plugged it into my 1960 and more yes oh god yes yes please more yessss was uttered. And now, this is my main amp. My only complaint is that the case/cab/whatever you want to call the beast is ugly as sin. I will be building one much shorter. But other than that, for a 12AX7/EL34 beast (at this price at least), I couldn't be happier.

Ive been looking at these also. I have a Peavey JSX Head and 412 cab and love it. But I need another high power amp in my studio. My other guitar amp which is a Peavey Stereo Chorus struggles to keep up with the Satch amp. And at the Windsor price I thaught I might go check one out.

Have you considered other options brand wise. That's a whole lotta Peavey.

We'll be starting to record in about two weeks, so at that point sound clips will be plentiful.

Nope. A Boogie would be nice in the future. But for the price, quality aspect you cant beat Peavey in my opinion.

Yep, just using it as a clean single channel. It's very dynamic, I can get it grimey if I dig into the strings or super clean while picking lightly. It is extremely loud, and should be a bit louder once I replace the EL34s with E34Ls.

Really? You could get this thing super clean? I did a review for this amp in a magazine, and I could not get it to clean up to save my life! I had the preamp volume almost as low as it could go and it was still wanting to break up if I picked with the least bit of force.

I thought the dirty sound was decent, but I certainly woudn't use it for a clean amp.

Hmmm .. I wonder what the difference is?

When you say "super clean," do you mean like Fender Twin clean? Because it certainly didn't sound that way to me at all.

I'm plugged into the low input, master at 12, pre at around 1-2, all EQ at middle, with treble a little bit higher, resonance at max, presence at middle, texture at full A/B, through an SG or LP. Of course what's perceived as "super clean" has a bit of distortion in it, but it only adds to the harmonics and isn't noticeable as distortion, more as glassy highs. Of course if I strum a chord relatively hard, it will begin to break up. I could clean it up by turning the preamp down a bit but that's pretty much the "clean" sound I'm going for. You're right though, this amp will never be totally clean.

A lot of tube amps have clean channels that aren't totally clean. I've recently worked with both a Marshall TSL and a Mesa Dual Rec and neither had a totally clean clean. I asked about this amp a while back and I think you've got me convinced to pick one up, thanks for the info.

Hey, I do what I can. Just don't blame me if you hate it!!

I really like most Peavey amps--probably becaue they tend to borrow a lot of their design technology from Marshall. My main amp is a Butcher with the slant cab, but only because I've never really had the geets ($) to fork over to get a Marshall.
