Peavey Speakers

Ok i have heard good things about Peavey and i heard how they sound and they do put out a good sound. So i was thinking of going with the Peavey PV115's(link below.) Now my question is will the amp( see below) I have power these or will I need a bigger amp. I just want to make sure I dont over power or under power those speakers and kill/blow them. Please let me know something.

You don't have to worry about overpowering them. Like Treeline said in the other thread, underpowering them should be your concern. I think the general rule is for your amp to be rated 2-3x's the rated speaker program power. If you use your current amp, be very careful not to clip it.

So the amp i have will work but wont offer as much power? Im just hopin i understand correctly. Im tryin to learn all this stuff. So bare wit me. I do thank u for helping me though.

The amp will work up to it's clipping point. Whether it will put out enough volume.......well you'll just have to find out I suppose. Just remember to not to clip the amp. Adjust the volume until it barely clips with your loudest, deepest bass material and then back the volume down a few notches for safety. That's your max available volume with the amp. If it's not loud enough, get a bigger amp. Clipping is probably the reason for your last woofers kicking the bucket.

Ok lets see if i understand. Those Peavey speakers are putting out 400 watts at 8ohms. So if i went with a different power amp such as the american audio VLP-1500 which offers 500watts at 8ohms. I would be good to go with no worries of blowing them correct? I hope im understanding this.

Not correct.

If you turn up that new up to it's clipping point, it will fry those speakers just like the little amp did. See what I'm sayin?

Ok thought i was going somewhere i guess not. But my concern is getting an amp that if turned half way up not to full blast to power the speakers and offer the speakers enough power. I know if that thing is 500 watts its offering 100 watts more meaning it could blow them cause it would be offering to much power if i turned it all the way up. So im prolly better off stickin wit the amp i have. I aint meaning to ask so many questions but im doing my hw/research to make sure i understand. U feel me?

i feel ya.

if you want to get the full power available from a speaker, get an amp rated at 2-3x's the speakers program rating. for example, say your chosen speaker is rated at 500 watts program power, 1000 watts peak power. to be able to take advantage of the speaker's full power, you'll need an amp rated at 1000-1500 watts. music has transient peaks (spikes) that require alot more power than the average level of the music. your amp needs to be able to reproduce those peaks cleanly. if you turn your amp up for more volume and it can't reproduce those peaks cleanly, it's clipping.

you can use your 200 watt amp with a 500 watt speaker but you have to be careful of clipping and you will not be able to take advantage of the speaker's full power. another way to look at it is your 200 watt amp would be better matched with a speaker rated at 60 watts program.

Find A PEAVEY CS-400 That Will Serve You Well. IF NOT A CS-800. IT IS BEST TO HAVE MORE POWER WITH A CLEAN SOUND THAN OVER DRIVING YOUR AMP WITH LOW POWER WHERE CLIPING WILL TAKE PLACE WHILE BURNING OUT YOUR AMP. REMEMBER THE AMP HAS INPUT VOL. CONTROLLS JUST BACK THEM OFF A LITTLE. JUST KEEP IN MIND YOU ARE THE ONE IN CONTROLL.
