Previously, up through the 1960's and early 70's, Ludwig drums were made from whaever was on hand. In fact, it wasn't uncommon for an entire drumkit to be made of different kinds of wood! (i.e., a Mahogany Floor toom, a Maple Kick, a Poplar rack tom, etc.)
That's the reason old Ludwig's are PAINTED on the inside of the drums!
So much for the "Myth" of the "All Maple " Ludwig kits.
