Okay,

I just realized that I've been telling Peak to save my files as AIFF but it has been saving them as AIFC?

I didn't know what AIFC was but google says it's a compressed version of AIFF?! What the hell?!? So all of my files that I thought were lossless are now compressed? Is this true?

Here's the messed up part... when I change the display on my Mac so that all my sound files open with Peak... the icon says "AIFF," but when I change my display so that all my sound files open with Quicktime, the icon says AIFC?

What is up with that? And how do I get Peak to save as AIFF instead of this compressed format?

Parts of Mac OS X seem to think that an AIFF file is an AIFC file. Technically, IIRC AIFC is an extension of AIFF, so that's fairly reasonable. Look at the file extension and that will tell you the format. If it ends in .aif or .aiff, it's not compressed. If it ends in .aifc, it is.
