peak levels??

Hey guys im new at the whole recording thing, so i just finished recording a dance song using my keyboard for all parts, and theres about 22 tracks, no voice in it yet tho, but the levels are at-1 DB, i do each part individually and then the summing just gets too high how can i avoid this, and yet at the same time i like hearing things loud, so i wanna hear it all loud, and thats just a little issue i have, so my question is how do i get the peak level at like -3db or something lower and still have the feeling of loudness...
 
oh and also, when tracks clip, is it that bad, i mean i dunt hear any distortion...

Like Greg said...turn up your speakers if you want it louder, not the track or sum levels.

Yes, clipping is bad. The reason you can't hear it (yet) is because your DAW is operating internally at a very high bit rate, so the clips are "absorbed" without issue. When you bring it down to CD or MP3 formats...all those clips will be very audible.
 
aw ok so another question, actually 2, when that red light goes on, does this hurt the pc each time, and another, which level do things get louder, like rlly loud, is it in mixing or mastering?

Your PC can easily handle 100 or 200 of those red lights - but if you get up to 400 your PC will crash and never come back on until you replace the mother board.

Things get louder when you TURN THE SPEAKERS UP.

Headache loud?

Ears bleeding loud?

Girlfriend in-your-face loud?

oh ok so 417... i think im at 239, is there a way to reset to go back to zero??
 
no it's cumulative. you have 178 left before your computer is fried.
 
my last computer worked all the way up to 432,it was the best computer i ever owned,i miss that computer a lot,rlly i do,lol
