PCI + Laptop

I know I'm probably gonna be shouted at for asking a stupid question, but is there anyway to get a PCI soundcard compatible with a laptop. I don't want to be limited to USB cards which would not suit my setup. Cheers :D
 
The only way you'll get a PCI card to work with a laptop is if the laptop has a docking station with PCI slots.

Not a laptop guy, so it is a serious question.
Thinking about a laptop for a "second computer."
 
All I know is the guys laptop has PCMCIA slots, I have no idea what they're used for, I couldn't find much info when doing a search for them. Sorry for my moronity (and I bet that word doesn't even exist!)

There are outboard solutions for connecting a PCI card through PCMCIA to your laptop but then you're talking in the region of $1000,-.
A docking station would be my first choice as well.
 
So would that just work with a PCMCIA slot? Why would you need more than 1 Slot Cardbus? Cheers

No, not 2 or 4 cardbus slots, 2 or 4 PCI slots from a single cardbus on the notebook.

Think being able to run like an Aardvark Q10, a Mackie UAD1 DSP card, and a 7200rpm 120gig hard drive all from the cardbus slot on the notebook.

I'm not sure how well all that would work, but theoretically it would.
 
actually there is a laptop pci slot, my thinkpad has one. But its not the same as a desktop pci, much smaller. Usually used for network cards.
