I am besides myself!

Looks like this is the replacement to my K2600 that I've been waiting for! OMG!

And this just floored me:
User samples that do not "go away" when a keyboard is powered off - this is a feature that's been requested by keyboardists since the introduction of digital sampling in the early '80s. Clearly demonstrating the virtue of enduring quality, the PC3K offers 128 megabytes of user sample memory and compatibility with K Series files, while also taking an enormous leap forward by allowing user samples to remain intact while power is off. Once samples are loaded into the PC3K's flash memory, there is zero load time for those samples when powering on the instrument.

Finally, a PC3 that also supports sampling! Woot! And a hardware sampler that retains samples in memory after you power it off!

And then you got Dynamic VAST and Cascade mode to mangle YOUR OWN SAMPLES.

OK, I'll shut up now :o

Well, looks like you can load your own samples from disk, but you can't directly sample into the 'board. Which also means no "Live Mode" as you have on the K2600S and K2600XS, which means, this sux as I do tend to use Live Mode often to bring in external audio and mess with it inside the board with VAST and KDFX.

Anyway...

I've thought about this

I really don't think it's an issue, unless you perform LIVE mode in Real time. Otherwise, you can still import samples from any recorded source you can imagine, and tweak it till your heart's content using VAST and the Sample Editor that remains in the new PC3k. It's like having almost a full sampler on the PC3k, minus the Live Import.

Live mode allowed you to create samples using the Kurzweil. Well, you can still get recorded sounds into the new PC3k - you'll just have to bring them in from another (unlimited) sources. Port them over using your USB key, and then use Sample Editor to do as usual.

Even your PC can create recordings as .wav files, in addition to countless DAW's. So you just need to record into a different piece of gear. Not much of a hurdle.

In fact, as far as I'm concerned, this new PC3k is in fact, practically speaking, the new K3000.

I do :( Including setting up internal feedback loops and "playing" the feedback with the sliders controlling filters, volume, etc.

Another cool thing is with LiveMode you can "play" the incoming audio at different rates, by playing keys other than middle C, which also ends up causing buffer overruns/underruns, glitching audio in some cool and somewhat unpredictable ways. This is why I think LiveMode is far more powerful than the ADAT ins on the K2661 for example. For far out noise/industrial stuff there simply is no substitute for this.

I also use it for other mundane things such as using KDFX as a straight FX unit for audio tracks in the DAW for things like reverbs and delays, like you would with a regular hardware FX devices.

Yeah, I am with you on all this, and I really don't want to take away from what the PC3K accomplishes. In fact my jaw dropped to the ground when I saw that it also offers backward compatibility with K-series files. That alone is a major development. The ability to bring in your samples into the PC3, and setup cascade chains where you can crossmodulate one sample with another for example opens up a world of possibilities that no hardware can come close.

I just don't have room for another full sized keyboard, and I do use LiveMode often enough for me not to want to part with the K2600XS.
