PC vs. Digital Workstations?

I'm pretty new to this as well and am still sitting on the fence. Here's my situation. I'm going to be buying a new mac as soon as the dvd writable drives get to a price I'm willing to pay. I want to do video editing. I have a digital camcorder with firewire outputs so I will be putting all the family movies on dvd. I'm sure prices will be down in the fall so that's when I will get this machine.

So I was thinking that getting both may be a good route. A workstation to record basic things and then download those tracks to a computer for more complex editing and then burning on to a cd. I was thinking of the akai dps16. But are there any workstations with firewire outs to quickly download the tracks to a pc? Another reason for both would be portability. I think I would like a workstation to bring over to a friends house and record some tracks too.

if you get a new mac use that for recording.....it will be a redundant waste to get another standalone....in my opinion the standalones are lame...theyre full of effects that you will never want to use, the preamps suck and the editing is a pain in the ass....plus its a pain to make mp3 s...copy cds etc....

test out a bunch of demos first of logic and cubase i would say

id recomend ardvark q10 or a motu setup and some direct x plugs preferably the advark q10 lol esp since your doing live drums
