Hey everyone, I just found this forum and am finding it very useful..I've been playing in a duo at bars for about 5 years. We recorded some stuff for a demo on a Tascam DAT recorder about 6 years ago that came out pretty good or at least good enough to play in local Phia. pubs. Anyway, we recorded to the DAT using a mixer and a few mics for vocals and guitars. We're looking into getting a more quality recording for wedding cocktail hours and various corporate events. We like to record live and have many songs from this DAT throughout the years that sound good but the quality could be better particularly with the acoutic guitars (I'd like to mic them). I'd like to record 4 tracks simultaneously from the mixer to my PC (3.0 pent4 1GBram) but would like to have control of the individual tracks once recorded on the computer. THis is something that is not possible on DAT. I'm aware that I might have to purchase a new sound card but was wondering how this connection works in detail and what software is good to have control of the 4 tracks being recorded. I feel this will help the quality of the recording and give me more control when mastering the mix. Any help would be great and thanks for your time.. I appreciate it!!

This will give you a pretty good idea of what you will need. There are tons of others. Search the muscian's friend web site, or try different musical instrument sales sites like this.
Hope it helps.

Oh, and look around in the forums. There are tons of multitrack software packages available from free to oh, my god how can they charge that much? It would depend on your needs as to what you get. Demo some of them...
