Patching effects

Ok, I've posted this before, except now I've actually tried it. I'm trying to patch a BBE Sonic Maximizer (no, I will not use it as a doorstop! lol). My Audiopro board has 2 effect outs and returns. I now it works properly, because the guy who sold it to me hooked up a guitar reverb pedal. But when I try to hook up the BBE, all I get is increased hum and stuff if I put "patch" knobs all the way up, it's not coming through right.
