I have a couple of old Tascam 1/4" 32-point PB's.

Is there any real disadvantage of PB's using 1/4" vs. other plug types (TT,etc.) or hardwired rear connections?

I mean signal degradation etc.

Thanks,

Earl

As long as they're clean, you'll be fine.

Hardwired is going to give you the "best" performance, but as long as you're getting a solid connection and keep them from oxidizing, everything's good.

The main advantage of TT's is that you can fit a lot more patch points in the same space. The TT patch cables aren't cheap.

I really dislike tt patchbays. I find them to be really distruptive to tracking and mixing. Maybe I'm just getting old, too much squinting. I like this nice "thunk" of plunking in a 1/4" jack and the nice big labeling for grandpa nubs. I really prefer soldered patchbays because for one it's cheaper (don't have to pay for rear 1/4" connectors) The connections are much less likely to come loose (if you are good at soldering) The PCB style patchbays will also wear out rather quickly with frequent use.
