I apologize in advance is this same request has been posted before. Here it goes,I'm looking for someplace that sells a kit or plans for a descent patchbay my soldering skills are good and have some knowledge regarding electronics I just have to remeber what the deal between normaled and non normaled patchbays are i learned so long ago, also about balanced and unbalanced patchbays and what i can and can't hookup.Thanx for any help offered
Peace Andrew S.

Patchbays are pretty cheap, would it really save money to make one yourself?

Thanx for the reply regebro,I thought it might be but if they're that cheap maybe it is better just to buy I'll look into it thanx again

Buying one is really the cheap solution. The most expensive parts in the synth-building-thingy I do every now and then, are the connectors and jacks. Serious. Those things are expensive as hell, and then you haven't got a decent box to put it in either...

Buy one.

OK u sold me I'll buy,but which one normalled half normalled balanced unbalanced.I have a tascam 388 8 trk if that helps with anyone in making suggestions.Thanx Andrew S.

I suspected that...

Some alternatives:
Behringer ULTRAPATCH PRO PX2000:
Unbalanced, cheap. Some bleed through if you don't put cables in both holes, but thats no big deal. You switch between modes with buttons, which is nice, but the buttons aren't accessible when rackmounted. Otherwise I can't find anything wrong with them. I got two of these.

FURMAN PB-48:
Balanced, twice the cost of the Behringer. Got good reviews here. You switch modes by flipping circuit boards, which means pulling out the front cables and removing some screws, but on the other hand you can do it while rackmounted. More suitable to the pro studio, I guess.

thanx regebro that helps alot after reading both links for my needs I think I'll go with the behringer. For my needs unbalanced doesn't seem to be to hard to deal with.I would assume it just means a bit of noise if my thinking is right.Again thanx alot for taking the time to answer me.
Andrew S. peace

You only need a balanced patchbay if you have a lot of balanced stuff to patch.

patchbay

Well all of my inputs have balanced inputs but my effect send/returns I think is unbalanced, there is a switch on the back of my console that is marked unbalanced/balanced since I haven't recieved my manual from tascam yet I'm not sure what the switch actually does.
