Part 4720981 coming soon!
Here it is folks, the long-awaited second episode of "The Making of Sonic Clang's Studio"!!! I know you've all been waiting so patiently for this, and I'm sorry it took me so long to get it done :) so without any further ado, I give you Part 2

In this episode we're even bigger dorks than we were in part 1. We get quite a bit done though, even though a lot of what we were doing was wrong. That's explained in the video. If I were to not show any of what we did wrong, there would be some pretty large gaps in the timeline of the construction.

I'm not sure yet. You're the first person to ask. If there seems to be a demand for it I'll start making DVD's and selling them.

My favortie part of the videos are the characters! It's like the real world, except you all know eachother already! I am jsut waiting for the angry hammer attacks. All that insulating must have been itchy!

Haha. No hammer attacks. Pete and I did bang heads once and that kind of hurt, but I don't remember any fights down here. I was going down to pick up a screw and he was lifting his head and BANG.

And yeah, I'm definitely putting together the videos in a way that shows the friendship between us. I'm sure I could have edited a lot of the talking out, and made it much more like a home improvment video, but I think would have been boring. People like good characters. :)

Insulation doesn't really get me itchy. The only thing that gets to me is my throat, but that's what the beer is for my friend.

i can even recall the name of the beer from episode 2! That's how good the videos are! Pete is probably the most energetic character.

That's funny man. Well I'm glad you're liking them so much!

Yeah, Pete is a really funny guy. But, I've edited out some of Dan's crazyness, because when he gets going he's a total freak. I'll try putting a little bit more of him in the next episode.

That one was too short :p ... I'm REALLY looking forward to part 3

BTW - I will be getting all these videos off of Youtube and burning them to a DVD :D I've allready downloaded and converted part 1 and 2

RF, how did you get them off youtube to convert them? And by the way, part 2 was almost three minutes longer than part 1! :) too short... pss!! youtube.com does have a 10 minute time limit per video.

mitosis, the date on the camera is correct. Part 1 and 2 took place 6 years ago. And... is that Appleton, Wisconsin? I'm just outside Madison.

You can use Keepvid.com to get movies off youtube, google video, yahoo, etc. Or you can use the videoDownloader firefox extension. All of them get them off in .flv form.

I then used Media Coder to convert them from .flv to .avi. Eventually when you release all of them I'll convert them all to DVD form and burn them to a DVD.

BTW, I realized that this part was 3 minutes long than the last one, shows you how interested in I am doesn't it :p

haha..these are funny.

may i ask what is it that makes your 45 degree angled corners bad for bass? I'm guessing the bass that gets caught behind that thing you built and basically just resonates in it. wouldn't there need to be something inside it or...something to soak up the bass

Well thankfully we did stuff the inside of the corner with tons of insulation, so whatever bass does get back there does get trapped. But we put one layer of OSB and two layers of drywall on the thing, so I'm guessing not a whole lot of bass gets back there. I don't know, maybe it's not the worst thing in the world to have. The thing is, now I've technically got two corners per corner, so I need even MORE bass traps. :)

RF, I guess I didn't know the ways of grabbing streaming videos and keeping them. That's kind of neat. My brother-in-law does that for streaming audio. I am planning on releasing high quality DVD's once they're all done. And I'm going to offer them for relitively cheap. :) And, since you're not going to be buying those, you could always help me out and make a donation to my fund to keep this stuff going. the button is on my myspace page.

I think you guys are setting some kind of record for stringers per unit area:)

Fun stuff.

Yeah... I had no idea exactly how many stringers to use. haha. 4 per stud is probably a BIT much. But I swear to god, there weren't as many sites with pictures of studio construction back then. John didn't have the "Studios Under Construction" site yet. He started that in late 2000, so I really didn't get a chance to see any pictures of studios under construction until later.

yeah wisconsin.

Cooool!

I also wanted to let everyone know who's paying attention to my videos, part 3 will be released on July 16th. Mark your calendars. :)

Very nice work, though, it was quite painful to imagine hammering all those stringers, let alone the framining. May the gods of Pneumatic Tools smile upon your future efforts and deliver you nice framing and finishing nail guns.

Or we could just use screws. :) Man, when we started I could hardly afford anything. I bought a cheap drill, cheap saw, we got most of the OSB for free... it's a wonder the studio ever got as far as it is now.
