Pan from left to right?

Ok, so I know that if you want to get guitar sounds out of the left ear you would pan them to the left...same for the right...but I heard a song tonight and it had a sound that faded in to the left ear and then gradually faded into the right ear and then faded out.

I love this effect! How does one accomplish this? ;)

What software are you using?

This can be done very easily using pan envelopes. Similar to volume envelopes but they control panning instead of volume.
 
Any decent multi-track software is going to have pan automation/envelopes. Try taking a look in the help file/manual for Acid. It will be in there.
 
select a track and press p

a red line will show up. double click on it to create a point. move the point around and listen to what that did
 
You can set the envelope manually...have it veer in left and pan right and veer out
 
nice! Thanks for all the replies guys. I will try that cello this week, but my stuff isnt hooked up yet since I am working on putting floors in etc...
