I've got a band I think I'm about to start recording, but I was planning on using their cymbals and hardware because I haven't had the funds for quality cymbals and hardware before. They have a set of Paiste 502's. My inital feeling is that these aren't going to record well. Has anyone every used them for recording? I've got a 20" ZBT ride that I really hate the sound of and I hope they're at least better than that. Any experience?

i like the 502 crash that came with the pack

the rides are very nice too

the hats are....ehh...it gets annoying after awhile.

Until you get away from the bottom lines, you will not have cymbals that record well. All of the cheap stuff has a clanky, obnoxious sound. For effects cymbals this can be cool, but not hats and crashes.

farview...i agree with you

i myself just got introduced with the recording industry.

your mixes wont come great if it doesnt come good onto whatever your recording dry.

that includes instruments, and mics, pres...etc

i agree

i dont know too much but my freind has the paiste 502 set and its pretty awesome .my favorite is the ride its so saweet in my opinion and i love the crash too the hi hats in my opinion arent bad they are just normal nothing special

Jason (Farview) speaketh the truth!! You cannot get a decent sound from budget cymbals. The mid range cymbals like the 802's will get you closer (maybe not all the way there). I like the 802 hi hats in particular. Alpha's would be the next step up.

Sabian XS20's are fairly good too.

If you want the best sound possible, go for top of the line! (yes, its expensive.)
