Paid for recording

I know this isn't strictly to do with MP3 mixing, but I was excited so I wanted to share with you. I got my first payment for recording yesterday; I normally record people as favours or to improve my knowledge, but the guy yesterday tipped me for the work I'd done on two of his songs.

This was a surprise to me, because I give all the creative control to the musician, and really just work on decent tracking and a decent mix. I've recorded rock, rap, folk, and, as was the case yesterday, classical and flamenco instrumentals.

Now alot of the stuff I've done has been posted here and every comment I've gotten back has improved the way I think about recording and mixing music. So I owe everyone who's helped me out a big thank you; to think that someone was willing to pay me for what I do was a huge confidence booster when it comes to how I consider my recording endeavours. So cheers guys!
 
That makes my cut about how much - 1/1,000,000 of a pence? Nyuk Nyuk.... :D :D :D :D

All kidding aside, congrats on getting paid to do something you love. You're pretty good at it so you deserve it. Hope the word spreads.....

Hah I wish! It's funny though. The guy I was recording is doing okay for himself; he is in college but gives guitar lessons at €30 an hour. He has 17 students on his roster at the moment, and they pay in advance every month. that's how he can afford to throw a few euros my way.

Hes phenomenal at guitar, but some of his compositions are a bit strange...they seem to incorporate alot of classical techniques together, but they all don't lend themselves to one song, which is what he's trying to do at the moment. I guess I'll just do what he thinks is best if it keeps him happy...
