I have a question regarding my PA system...

I recently switched form using an old Peavey XR600-B pa head (not a problem with it in 18 years or so) to a Beringer europower PMP518m... I made the switch purely for aesthetic reasons (it's compact and fits nicely in the new shelving unit in my rehearsal space, the Peavey is 2" too wide).

I'm running 2 vocal mics through it into an old pair of JBL G-730 PERFORMANCE SERIES speakers (see attached PDF) but I noticed I'm not getting the umph out of the Beringer and often times it clips and gets overloaded. I'm guessing it's a ohm or watt issue.

can anyone recommend a new PA head that could give me the power/volume that I need that is no more than 21.5" wide with the power button in the front?

thanks,
wes

The Peavey puts out about 100 watts per channel RMS into 8 ohms. The Behringer puts out 62 watts RMS per channel into 8 ohms. Both of those are underpowered considering the JBL speakers handle 200 watts RMS each. You need to look for a powered mixer that puts out more than 200 watts per channel RMS into 8 ohms. More power means that you will have headroom and you will not clip the amp and damage the speakers. You really would be better off with a separate power amp and mixer.
