If so, are you using the adat inputs? And what are you using for a analog to adat converter?

I was considering buying the Alesis AI3 adat converter.

Actually I just bought the unit. Waiting for it now. I was going to ask you or someone else this question. How is the sound? I have been using the MAudio 1010 for years.
I thought with a ADAT unit one could have 16 channels right?

I too switched from a 1010. You can tell the difference in the sound quality and stability.

And yes 16 channels is right.

I was previously using a Roland 880EX. I'll let you guess what the sound difference was like...

I use the ADAT as my primary input, fed from an Onyx 800R.

You like the onyx pre's? Could you compare them to something else?

thx, garrett

I have the original Multiface. Feeding the Behr*nger ADA8000 into the ADAT, wordclocked to the Multiface. Haven't really used the ADA8000 for much more than my talkback mic, so I don't have much opinion on it; but it seems to do OK as long as you aren't expecting magic from the "preamps" on it. Cheap way to get 8 extra channels though.

The only other pre's I have put real time on are on my Spirit Folio SX, a Tube MP, and one gig where I leached off a Soundcraft desk during a live performance. Oh, and the nasty 880 pres. The MP is kinda crappy, obviously, I'd rate the others Soundcraft, Onyx, Spirit, but all pretty close. I never got a chance to A/B the desk with anything, so it might just have been a good-sounding set, but the desk seemed to have a difficult to describe livliness that my other work doesn't have.

I don't push the Onyx pres hard, they do well right at 0db. I wouldn't call them colored, more of a what-you-hear pre. I definately would say the Onyx is not a limiting factor in my recording quality (or lack thereof).
