Overhead Mics

I just bought a Audix D6 and SM57, which make my bass drum and snare sound great, but my overheads are lacking. Every recording I do, the hi-hats sound too prominent no matter where I place the overheads. Do you know a pair of overheads that are fairly cheap but good quality?

IF you arre looking for cheap I say buy one Shure KSM32 instead of a pair of cheap.

IF the hi hat is always too loud no matter what you do, its sound like this is more a problem of performance than gear.

You might just have really loud hats and quiet crashes. This happens a lot. The most coveted hats tend to be the loud ones and the crashes that sound the most wonderful tend to be quieter. You need to match the cymbals with your playing style, or just not hit them so hard (or close the hat)

You could do what that guy did back in the good old days and record each drum seperately! Put pillows on the drums u aint using if you cant drum out a song of one single drum at a time. Remember to get the foamy filled pillows (you know the lighter ones) as these make less noise when hit with a drum stick compared to the duck feather filled ones.

I just recieved my cheapo MCA SP1s from music123.com. They are large diaphram condensor (LDC) mics that need phantom power. I am quite pleased with them, yet I'm not a guy that can compare them with the mics priced 10x what I paid like the "mic snobs" in the Mic forum. The mics I got cost $50 each.
