Hello,

I've been reading through old posts and searching for any information that has been already given, but I still don't have all that I'm looking for, so help me out if you could.

I'd like to replace my old overhead mics (AKG C3000 pair) with some small diaphragm condensers. The Rode NT5 and Studio Projects C4 were both really high on my list, due to their price and middle-of-the-road reputations. I know that I could buy a pair of the NT5's from Guitar Center with their 30-day return policy, but there really aren't any Studio Projects dealers that I can see around here (I live in Minnesota). I'd like to try them out before I get them, but that doesn't seem very possible.

Does anybody here have any sound clips of these mics being used for overheads? Or acoustic guitar? I'll probably end up using the mics for both purposes.

As an alternative, does anybody know of any good microphone rental places in Minnesota, or of any directories? With all the talk about different mics, I don't see very much talk of rental. I have no idea what the rental price could be, so if it's a pretty high percentage, maybe it's not worth it...

Anyways, if you guys can help me out or give me opinions or solutions, I'd be quite appreciative.

I have a set of C4's that I've been using to record acoustic guitar, and I really like them a lot! I don't have any other SD condensors to compare them to directly, but they sound more "nuetral" to me than some SD condensers I've heard in the past. ...But what the hell do I know?! :)

At this time, I don't have any tunes posted right now that included any tracks recorded with the C4's. (Actually, I do, but the guitar tracks are burried in the back quite a ways, and you might not hear them very well. Check out my tune "Hindsight is 20/20" at my soundclick site (www.soundclick.com/bands/9/mrmoonmusic.htm) if you'd like to hear them anyways. I used the c4's to record the acoustic guitars in the intro and during the middle break. I used Izotope Vinyl on the intro guitars, to rough them up a bit...) However, I will be doing some more recording with them in the future on both acoustic guitars and as overheads, etc., and I'll be posting those tunes when they're completed.

Yo Jarick! Check the link here-

These are guide tracks for my current album before mixing, so there's no EQ or ambience or anything. C-4's are used as overheads on "Requiem", "Sunset Nostalgia", "Donahue". Oktavas were used on "Rock Star" and "Po' Cat Blues". "Po Cat'" is the better example, as "Rock Star" had issues, and had to be EQ'd like a mother in the mixdown. Incedentally, the C-4's were also used on the Classical guitar and wind chimes on "The Woodsman's Lay". I think the C-4's are really good mics that you can use for overheads, and the Oktavas are really good overheads that you can use for mics.-Richie
