Hello all. I need to find two good overhead mics for my drums. I've done a bit of research and have found that the following models might work: AKG C1000S, Shure SM 81, Shure SM94. I'm looking to spend between $100 and $150 for each mic (I haven't found any prices for the above mics yet). Any suggestions on some other overhead mic options? Also, anyone know of a good site to purchase mics online?
Sorry, but the cheapset small diaphragm condenser you're gonna find worth mentioning is the AKG C1000s for $200. Although, you're far better off with an Oktava MC012 for $269US. It is a multi-capsule (cardioid, hypercardioid, and omni) small diaphragm condenser. You can buy a matched pair for $619US (which I recommend for any stereo recording). Also, I recommend buying an Oktava only from The Sound Room. www.oktava.com
I bought some AKG C418 mics for tomes... they suck for that job, but they make awesome overhead mics. The run at $200 each. You can get a drum package of a pair of C418 and one D112 for $400 at American Music Supply.
