I am wondering if the mxl 2001 can handle the spls required to mic drums overhead. Would the rode nt3 be better? I am trying to buy as few mics as possible and thought the 2001 may work as a vocal/horn/overhead mic as well. I also have an old ev pl9 omnidirectional mic - anybody know if it is any good? It is in a rugged metal case. I'm just curious about that one. I will be using a 57 on the snare and a 112 on the kick and capturing the rest of the set with the oheads.

Might want to look into the Rode NT-1s instead. Just my sugestion. How much you willing pay for a pair of overheads?

R.E. im going to steal your thunder by saying the words.... just kidding that would be cruel to stop you from getting the oktava recommendation arousal. and Landwanr, get the NT3s and tell us how they sound since none of us know. Since it is known that the Rode's so far have been the best, or second best in their price range... hopefully they keep this up.
